Young People

The Stealthy Orb
Outer Space Exhibition
11 January–6 February 2012
At Exeter Picturehouse, 51 Bartholomew Street West, Exeter, EX4 3AJ

Outer Space is a group of young people aged 12–16 years who meet on a weekly basis at Spacex. Working with artist and tutor Jenny Mellings, they create artworks inspired by exhibitions on show at Spacex.

The past year has seen an inspiring programme of exhibitions presented covering a variety of media including animation, film, sculpture, print making and archive projects. The work exhibited at Exeter Picture House has been produced by the group in response to both the themes and methods used by artists to make something new.

This exhibition marks a new phase in Spacex’s provision for this age-group as Outer Space becomes Outer Spacex, leaving the confines of the gallery for local Secondary Schools starting with St. Lukes Science and Sports College from January 2012.

Outer Spacex

For over 10 years, Outer Space has provided an encouraging environment for 12 - 16 year olds to develop their interest in art. Running weekly during term-time, Spacex has opened late and invited young people to come and experiment, create, explore and interact.

Going mobile
From January 2012, Outer Space will become Outer Spacex, leaving the confines of the gallery to go on tour. First stop, St. Luke's Science and Sports College in Exeter. Here, Outer Spacex will offer opportunity for students of St. Lukes to attend the after school sessions and produce work based on a visit to Spacex.

What does this mean for you?
We are looking for the next stop for the tour! This is an open invite for you to register your interest in Outer Spacex coming to your school. For further information or to register interest, please contact Kathy Norris, Education and Schools Programmer at Spacex on 01392 431786 or email education@spacex.org.uk
