Summer Screen
International artists film programme
Following the success of last years Summer Screen, this summer Spacex will present an international artists film programme and host a series of related events. The screening programme will include a curated programme by Negar Azimi for www.tank.tv titled 'She doesn’t think so but she’s dressed for the h-bomb'.
This programme includes a selection of short videos by Ziad Antar, Yael Bartana, Haris Epaminonda, Iman Issa, Hassan Khan, Rosalind Nashashibi, Shahryar Nashat, Ahmet Ögüt, and the Atlas Group. These films reveal the weight of diverse histories in defining the current moment – whether manifest in the form of national myth, ritual, architecture, or pop culture. In the end, these are not static narratives; they are dynamic, promiscuous and enigmatic.
You will also get a chance to see 'Stop. Watch'. New short films by artists that address ecological emergencies. Animate Projects and RSA Arts & Ecology, in partnership with Arts Council England, have commissioned seven artists to make short films for the internet that explore ecological themes.
Artists Jordan Baseman, Phil Coy, Manu Luksch, Christine Ödlund, Elodie Pong, Simon Woolham, and Young-Hae Chang take diverse approaches that consistently and powerfully challenge common perceptions and clichés of current debates about environmental crises and their human impact.
South West Film Evening
11 September, 7.30pm. Free but booking essential.
Spacex invites you to an informal evening of films by artists from the south west with the opportunity for discussion and networking. Refreshments provided. Contact the gallery to reserve your place.
